When you say "mail()" function you mean the test mail? If so - yes, test mails are going out ok.
FWIW - I changed the smtp configuration and changed it to use a different smtp server, in the few attempts I did - the password recover email arrived.
What puzzles me is that test mails worked, recovery email did not work, my postfix logs showed 0 attempts to send password recovery emails and they did show all test mails coming through...
